Step Your Game Up: Chapter 10 - Secondary Characters

Recently, EG Justin Wong has posted a new article on his column-articles that were designed to help people like you, become a better fighting game player.

In this post, he talks about the pros and cons of having secondary characters, and why they are important sometimes.

"Having a secondary character is a very good thing, because there will always be a bad match up for your main fighter. The only problem is that most of the time, your secondary character might not be on par with your main character. Even the best players in the world have secondary characters at their disposal."

"Sometimes you don't see much of player's secondaries because most of the time their confidence isn't there. If you look at Daigo vs. Infiltration at the SF25th Grand Finals for Super Street Fighter 4 Arcade Edition v2012, I believe that Daigo would've done a lot better if he had switched to Yun. But, at the moment he might not have been confident. I believe the only player that does have the confidence to switch at the heat of the moment is Infiltration."

"Secondaries are also good to have because it will help your overall understanding of the game in terms of patience, spacing, movement, footsies, memorization, and execution."

"I talked a lot about the pros about secondary characters, but there are some cons for learning a secondary character.

1. Less commitment to main character.

2. Thinking that your secondary is better than your main.

3. Always have the thought of, "Why didn't I pick my secondary character in the match?"

4. Might be too difficult to juggle another character."

How to counter Zero's Buster>Lightning (UMvC3)

HonzoGonzo has just posted first episode of his new UMvC3 series: You Are An Idiot. This series features things you should know about UMvC3, but don't because you're an idiot. The first episode in the series is about punishing and Zero's Buster>Lightning setup.

The best way illustrated in the video is to launch, but Honzo shows other options you can do to fuck this Zero up.

Sorry Zero, all you'll get from me is this shitty drawing of a rage face.

Maple Story a Repetitive Journey!

As old time player in the Maple community might realize at first glimpse, the exp and leveling system had changed dramatically. Me being one of them, I saw a level 120 get to 125 in a duration of an hour, or less! When back then it was a miracle to get to lvl 70 within a couple weeks! I cant tell if this is a good thing or a bad thing, but what i can say for sure is that its boring. By the time one reaches level 100 or maybe even 80, the game becomes immensely repetitive and revolves around on mainly doing the same old PQ's with the same old people or grinding for hours on end just to reach level 80 in one day. The game has an amazing story with amazing ideas and designs, though the fact that the game only revolves on these two things, its dull! In my opinion I would prefer the game to revolve around a large story that allows a player to level to at least 150 by following the story alone rather than going from different maps and different areas to find channels that are open so they can grind. Also, the way that most quests require gathering items and such becomes very tedious and unneeded. I remember doing the Chyrse quest line and having to pick up all the rabbit teeth, and all the scorpion helmets was a drag, in more ways than one!

Overall the game is GREAT! Just really repetitive  and sorry to tell you this Nexon, but its the same thing with every other game you put out, especially Vindictus and Dungeon Fighter Online.

Pokemon Black and White 2 International Scizor Event

Pokémon Black 2 & White 2"A new international Pokémon Global Link event has gone live. As we reported upon announcement, this special Pokémon, a Scizor with its Hidden Ability of Light Metal, is accessible to players who have signed up and participated in official Pokémon Leagues across the world. This Scizor is live from 13:00 local time today and runs until the end of January."

Yay, support Scizor! Oh wait Scizor doesn't have any moves that make it a viable support DDDDD:

Honestly, I would only grab this for being a collectable. Scizor is much more preferred for his sweeping capabilities.

Best Fighting Game Moments of 2012

As we approach the end of the year, we nerds like me can not help but to think of the fighting games that made you hype. Whether it's a phenomenal comeback or a serious rushdown, fighting game videos compel you to watch and rewatch. Here are some of the best matches of 2012.

EVO 2012 Daigo vs. Gamerbee

This video features a game from EVO 2012. No matter how hard things were or Daigo, he would always keep his cool and fight until the very end.

"Can this man swag any harder?"

Specifically at 2:40.

EVO 2012 SSF4:AE Finals

It's no wonder this round had so much hype. It features Infiltration who has demonstrated very solid gameplay, winning most of his sets in the top 8, versus Gamerbee, who has made it to the finals all the way from losers brackets. Let's see how these two fare against each other, and let's see how Gamerbee fares against Akuma's U1's.

Vindictus Christmas Event - Waste of money?

As most players know, Christmas has arrived in the world of Vindcitus and is spreading holiday joy with spanking new costumes and events.... Or is it? Nexon has added the new Christmas Gift Box that costs 2000/box or 19000/10, and an event that gives rare Devil wings. The event calls for the fancy Christmas Cake that has a VERY, VERY, VERY slim chance of "popping" out. Even if one were to get the cake, all you'd receive would the devil wings that only sell for like.. 300- 500 mill! Where as one could have spend over $20 just getting them. In my opinion, the box is TOO over priced and not worth it. Although if they increased the chances of getting the cake or at least reduced the price to like... 1k - 1.5k nx per box, then it might be worth getting.

Diablo III Bans Thousand Users

Blizzard Entertainment has banned "several thousand" Diablo III players founding to be using botting hacks, the company said in the game's official forums.

"In addition to undermining the spirit of fair play, botting, hacking, and other forms of cheating can also cause technical problems with the game as well as contribute to performance issues with the Battle.net service," a Blizzard community manager said.

The Blizzard representative reiterated that it is the studio's goal to foster a stable, safe, and enjoyable online environment for legitimate players. Blizzard will continue to monitor play and will "take action as needed."

For now, Blizzard said players who witness such botting hacks should report the malfeasance by emailing the company at hacks@Blizzard.com. In the future, however, this will be easier. An upcoming Diablo III patch will add the ability for players to report this behavior directly through the game client, Blizzard said.

League of Legends - Vi..... Second Jarvan? (League of Legends) Champ Review #1

Vi can play as a top lane bruiser as well as an exceptional jungler. Although the way she plays, in my opinion,  is somewhat similar to Jarvan. Why ? Well looking at her W, it pretty much matches the bonus damage you have with Jarvan's passive, her Q and E also has the same effect as Jarvans, and her ultimate somewhat matches Cataclysm. The way i see it, the new champions in League of Legends are becoming more and more like the ones already out. Either get some better ideas Riot or its "game over" for you.

New HALO 4 Multiplayer Mode Next Week

If your Halo 4 teammates have been letting you down in some of the game’s team-based multiplayer modes of late then you can look forward to new free-for-all game types being added to the mix from next week.

The playlist will feature five maps - Haven, Abandon, Adrift, Complex and Solace - and up to eight players can go head-to-head in matches lasting 12 minutes each. The Oddball game type requires players to rack up 100 points to win while King of the Hill matches are won by accumulating 50 points.

Halo Waypoint’s Jessica Shea sounded a warning to players with the following message:

“If you’ve been dominating these modes with teammates, see how the game changes when it’s every Spartan for themselves.”

Far Cry 3 and Assasins Creed III Missing from UK Steam

The PC version of Assassin's Creed III and the soon-to-be-released Far Cry 3 are unavailable on the UK Steam store, according to a report from PCGamesN.

"We've been in discussions with Valve about Assassin’s Creed III and Far Cry 3, but for the time being the games are not available via Steam in the UK," a Ubisoft spokesperson told the site.

The spokesperson did not give a reason or an estimated time until the issue would be fixed.

Ubisoft instructed those in the UK wishing to purchase the games to do so via its Uplay store or from physical retailers in the region.

The issue only affects gamers in the UK, as both games will still be available on Steam in other regions.

Ubisoft recently revealed that Far Cry 3 will not support dedicated servers. The game will cast players as Jason Brody, a man stranded on a strange tropical island similar to the setting of the first Far Cry.

The game was originally targeted to launch in September, but was delayed to December 4 over the summer.

The external beta began in October this year, and included Steam, one Valve game, and support for Ubuntu 12.04 and above. The initial round of invitations went out to 1,000 users.

The project, which began in 2011, aims to allow Steam to work with a functioning Ubuntu build of Left 4 Dead 2. Valve's 11-person Linux development team wants to make the game run on Ubuntu as well as it does on Windows, and has plans to accommodate other distributions of Linux.

Steam on Linux would add another notch on the digital distribution service's already large platform base, which spans PC, Mac, PlayStation 3, Android, and iPhone.

Portal 2 Split Screen Mode?

Molyneux 'reinventing' Populous

Peter Molyneux is no stranger to bold claims. Now, he has made another. The former Microsoft veteran is planning an "innovative reinvention" of Populous, the God game he created in 1989. To do so, Molyneux and his new studio 22Cans have launched a Kickstarter campaign for "Godus" with a funding contribution target of £450,000 (about $717,075). At press time, the fund had amassed £6,277 ($10,002) from 289 backers.

As for the game, Godus is aiming to deliver "exciting global co-operation, competition, creation, and destruction to a whole new generation." According to the game's Kickstarter page, 22Cans' goal with its games is to engage users in "fresh new ways."

Godus is in development for PC and mobile devices, though 22Cans said it hopes to add additional platforms as the Kickstarter effort progresses. Development on the project is expected to take between seven and nine months, though if funds exceed the target, extra time will be spent adding additional features to the game.

BioWare Asks if Fans Want Mass Effect Prequel.

It appears the next Mass Effect game is only just beginning development. BioWare executive producer Casey Hudson asked his 30,000+ Twitter followers last night if they would prefer the next Mass Effect game to be a prequel to the original trilogy or a sequel.

"Parsing through your thoughts on the next #ME game," he wrote. "Would you be more interested in a game that takes place before the trilogy, or after?"

A follow-up to Mass Mass Effect 3 was announced in September. Just last week, BioWare revealed the project was in development at the studio's Montreal outfit under the direction of Hudson. The game will run on Battlefield technology Frostbite and will reportedly be "very respectful" of the franchise's history, though BioWare is pursuing "new directions" for the series with regards to gameplay and story.

Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault Delayed for PS Vita

Gamers hoping to take advantage of Sony's new Cross-Buy promotion with this month's Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault are out of luck, at least for now. The PlayStation Vita version of the game has been delayed to January 2013, Sony announced today on the PlayStation Blog. The PlayStation 3 version remains set for November 27.

"In order to provide the best gameplay experience possible, the PS Vita version of Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault will be coming out in January 2013," reads a line from a statement from SCEA producer Greg Phillips.

Full Frontal Assault takes advantage of Sony's new Cross-Buy promotion, whereby those who purchase the PS3 version will receive the PlayStation Vita iteration for free. For now, those who pick up the console version will not receive the portable version.

In response to the delay, Sony said will give away copies of the Mini-Boss Skin Pack for those who purchase Full Frontal Assault for PS3. It includes character skins from previous Ratchet games and is pictured above. It is not clear what Sony had planned to charge for this content as a standalone ware.

Patch Hits Black Ops 2

Activision has released a new patch for the PlayStation 3 version of Call of Duty: Black Ops II, but it does not appear to have fixed what it set out to. Activision wrote in its support forums that it has launched an update aimed at fixing lockup/freezing issues, but also notes that some gamers are still experiencing the issues.

"We are doing everything we can to get to the bottom of it as quickly as possible," the statement reads. No specific timetable was provided concerning when the new fix will be ready.

Separately, Activision also addressed issues Wii U users are reporting. The company told gamers who are experiencing lockups to make sure they have the most recent version of the game. To do this, Activision said players should make sure they have installed all patches and title updates before jumping in. These updates provide improvements to security and fixes for exploits and crashes and do not affect saved games.

"Dumb Ways to Die"- by Metro
